Note: actually three] more rulings reversals. Dark Pupitar and Discovery Metapod have attacks that have effects that should be tied to the result of the flip. Both effects are tied to the coin flip, regardless of how the card is worded. So, [if] you flip tails, you do NOTHING. Same goes for Blastoise's Jet Stream Poke-POWER. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, post-Q156) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == ATTRACT CURRENT (Ampharos - Neo: Revelation Expansion) Q. For Ampharos's Attract Current attack: If you get two heads you can attach 1L energy to two different pokemon A. You can put them on the same or different Pokemon. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, Q150) == EXPLOSIVE EVOLUTION (Dark Pupitar - Neo: Destiny Expansion) * MT Mike asked me to announce two [Ed. Note: actually three] more rulings reversals. Dark Pupitar and Discovery Metapod have attacks that have effects that should be tied to the result of the flip. Both effects are tied to the coin flip, regardless of how the card is worded. So, [if] you flip tails, you do NOTHING. So, Explosive Evolution will only completely work on the result of a heads. And Metapod's Hatch is the same way. Same goes for Blastoise's Jet Stream Poke-POWER. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, post-Q156) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. Can you search for a Dark Tyranitar regardless of heads or tails from Dark Pupitar's Explosive Evolution? A. See the answer about Discovery Metapod; If you get tails you still get to search your deck and evolve. (Apr 25, 2002 WotC Chat, Q9 & Q14) == HATCH (Metapod - Neo: Discovery Expansion) * MT Mike asked me to announce two [Ed. On Neo: Discovery Metapod's "Hatch", does the coin flip pertain to the entire attack, or only to the portion of it regarding removal of damage counters? In other words, if I get tails, do I still get earch my deck for an evolution of Metapod? A. If you get tails you still get to search your deck and evolve Metapod. (Apr 25, 2002 WotC Chat, Q9) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNOWN CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == CHAOS GYM (Gym: Challenge Expansion) [see also Pokemon Power: "Mind Games"] * This ruling needs to be updated. You cannot play or use Pokémon Breeder when it is NOT your turn. Whether in a 2 player game or a team multiplay. So far, the only way this comes up is with Chaos Gym. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, Q134) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. If my opponent use Pokémon Breeder and flip tales with Chaos Gym in play. Can I use that Pokémon Breeder on one of my Pokémon to evolve it if I have the necessary Basic and Stage 2 Pokémon? A. Yup you can. (Oct 19, 2000 WotC Chat, Q70) * Also Chaos Gym needs some more clarification. The old ruling that allows your opponent to use 2 Professor Elms on your turn (assuming you tried to play 2 and flipped tails both times) is being updated. When a tail flip occurs with a Trainer and with Chaos Gym in play, the opponent effectively "plays" that card. Meaning that they could NOT play a second Elm in the scenario above. This coincides with the recent Supporter/Chaos Gym rules. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, Q134) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. In a recent chat ruling concerning Chaos Gym and Professor Elm, you stated that Chaos Gym lets your opponent "Use" a Trainer if you flip tails, and that is not the same as "Playing" a Trainer. For the record, does "Playing" refer only to moving the card from your hand to the table? A. Correct. (Jan 18, 2001 WotC Chat, Q28a) == POKÉMON BREEDER (Base Set) Q. Can my opponent use Pokemon Breeder if I fail a Chaos Gym flip? A. You cannot play or use Pokémon Breeder when it is NOT your turn. Whether in a 2 player game or a team multiplay. So far, the only way this comes up is with Chaos Gym. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, Q134) == PROFESSOR ELM (Neo: Genesis Expansion) * Also Chaos Gym needs some more clarification. If my opponent gets to USE my Prof Elm when I flip tails for Chaos Gym, would they be able to USE another Trainer during my turn if I flip tails again? You said "no" a few weeks ago, but Chaos Gym says the opponent may "USE" it, rather than "PLAY" it. A. You're right, the terminology is different; I was wrong. (Feb 1, 2001 WotC Chat, Q46) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS BEEN REINSTATED; See Above ***** Q. If Chaos Gym is active and I try to play Prof. Elm but flip tails, if the opponent chooses to use it can I continue to play trainers during my turn? And will the opponent be allowed to play trainers when their turn comes around? A. You could still try and play trainers. Your opponent would NOT be able to play any more trainers on your turn (meaning if you fail a Chaos flip again, they would NOT be able to use them). He or she could use them normally on their next turn.
