What happens when a Crystal or Rainbow Energy is attached to a Crystal Pokemon. The Crystal Pokemon have a Pokemon Power that says when you attach certain colors of energy to that Pokemon, then the Crystal Pokemon Becomes the same type as that energy until the end of the turn. A. You would choose when you attach it (if there was other Energies attached) if not than you wouldn't get to choose, it just provides colorless. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q758) Q. Crystal Nidoking's Power has a fire energy symbol, but its attacks do not use fire energy. Should the fire symbol be a fighting symbol instead? A. Play as written for now; it should be Fighting though, so we will check on it. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q794) == EARTH RAGE (Nidoking - Aquapolis Expansion) Q. Is Nidoking's poke power cumulative? A. If you had multiple Nidokings in play and a way to keep retreating them... (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q819) == ENERGY CONVERTER (Porygon2 - Neo: Revelation Expansion) Q. Does Crystal Energy copy the converted energy type if a card has been Porygon2'd? ["Energy Converter" pokemon power] A. Read what Crystal says, it says it provides 1 Energy of all Types of BASIC Energy cards attached to the Pokemon. This is AGAIN the HO-OH ruling. Changing what type of energy a BASIC energy card provides DOES make it count as a different type of energy card. Which is why you would discard a Rainbow energy when something says discard all fire energy. BUT if it said discard all BASIC fire energy, you would NOT discard a Rainbow energy. Crystal works the same way. It only provides the type of energy from the ACTUAL PHYSICAL BASIC energy cards that are there; NOT what they may be changed to providing! (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q777) == FLUFF (Jumpluff - Aquapolis Expansion) Q. I have a question does Jumpluff (aq) stop Cleffa's Eeeeeeek??? A. Nope. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q822) == HARVEST BOUNTY (Venusaur - Expedition Expansion) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See "Rainbow Energy - Aquapolis" ***** Q. If I use Expedition Venusaur's Power to attach both a Rainbow Energy and a Metal Energy to my Active Pokémon, will it take 10 damage (as I think it will)? A. When the Power says 'at the same time' it doesn't mean that you place the cards on at exactly the same time, you do place them on one at a time, you just can't split this throughout your turn. If you place the Metal on first, you can then place on the Rainbow energy without taking damage from it. (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q408) == JET STREAM (Blastoise - Expedition Expansion) Q. Some players maintain that benching Blastoise and then reactivating it will allow a second use of Jet Stream. Can you explain why this is, or is not, correct? A. That does not work. Just like the old Gengar's Curse ruling, benching something does NOT end the "once per turn" limitation. Now if you used it, then devolved it and then reevolved it, then it is a different Pokemon and could use its ability. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q738) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == MEAN LOOK (Murkrow - Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. If I devolve my Active Pokemon (using Hyper Devo Spray, etc.) that has been trapped by Murkrow's "Mean Look", will that permit me to retreat it? A. Yes. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q750) == PAIN SPLIT (Misdreavus - Promo) Q. Misdreavous promo's "Pain Split" attack, since it says "put 1 damage counter for each 1 Misdreavous has on itself" ignores Metal Energy, right? Does it also ignore or bypass Focus Band too? A. It ignores Metal but not Focus Band. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q790) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNOWN CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == DEVOLUTION SPRAY (Base Set) / HYPER DEVOLUTION SPRAY (Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. If I devolve my Active Pokemon (using Hyper Devo Spray, etc.) that has been trapped by Murkrow's "Mean Look", will that permit me to retreat it? A. Yes. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q750) == MEMORY BERRY (Aquapolis Expansion) Q. Scenario: I have 3 Ampharos in play. My active amphy which, evolved from the neo1 Mareep, has a Memory Berry attached. can it perform Mareep's static to search deck for 3 L energy and attach them to itself? re: self-referencing principle, correct? A. Yes, correct. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q814) == TOWN VOLUNTEERS (Aquapolis Expansion) Q. Do you HAVE to pick out exactly 5 cards for Town Volunteers, or can it be UP to 5 or nothing at all? A. Yup, it works like Time Capsule did. If you have 5 you MUST choose 5, if you have less than 5 you can still play it and choose all of what you do have. You can't CHOOSE to pull less than 5 if you have that many. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q743 & Q774) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == CRYSTAL ENERGY (Aquapolis Expansion) Q. Crystal Energy states that it provides Energy of all types (colors) of basic energy attached to the Pokemon Crystal Energy is attached to, does that mean that if you have a fighting energy and fire energy attached to the pokemon it provides one energy A. Crystal actually just provides one energy from the look at the top right corner of the card, so it would either make one Fire or one Fighting. It's sort of a limited Rainbow Energy. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q753) Q. So when Crystal Energy is played on a Pokemon with two different types of Energy, you choose what type Crystal provides? If so, can you change what type it provides multiple times during your turn or your opponent's turn? A. It will count as both types, but only provides one Energy. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q800) Q. If I have a Crystal Energy attached and I do an attack that says "discard all Fire energy", if I discard all my Fire energy cards first does the Crystal still have to be discarded too since there are no more Fire cards attached? A. You have to discard all the Energy at once. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q754) Q. Is there any way you can think of (other than Tyranitar's Dark Aura) that a Crystal Energy card can be used to provide Darkness or Metal energy? A. Not that I know of, yet. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q755) Q. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q777) == RAINBOW ENERGY (Team Rocket Expansion; Aquapolis Expansion; Promo) * You may have noticed that Rainbow Energy in Aquapolis is slightly different as it says place a damage counter instead of do 10 damage. That is now how Rainbow energy is to be played. This matches up with the Japanese rules as well. The only effect I know that may change is attaching Rainbow energy to a Pokemon that already had a Metal Energy on it. Now the Metal WILL NOT prevent that damage counter placement. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat Announcements) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. If I were to play Metal Energy, and then (next turn) play Rainbow energy, would that Pokémon take damage [from the Rainbow Energy]? A. No. (Dec 21, 2000 WotC Chat, Q118) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TEAM GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == TEAM PLAY IN GENERAL Q. In TMP, poison & burn damage is counted after each player's turn or between each team's turn? A. After each player's turn. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q768) Q. If a Master Professor is the HEAD Judge of a TMP tourney does that also increase the k-value of THAT tourney? A. Yes. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q818) == SNATCH (Scizor - Aquapolis Expansion) Q. In TMP Can a player use Aquapolis Scizor Snatch attack on a non-baby's pokemon BUT then choose to bring up a baby from the other opponent'd bench? A. Sure, but you would not be attacking that Baby Pokemon you just brought up as you already started the attack against a different Pokemon. (Jan 30, 2003 WotC Chat, Q817) == SPIRAL AURA (Hypno - Aquapolis Expansion) Q. In team play, for Hypno's Spiral Aura, when you hit an opponent's pokemon can you designate which of your opponents pokemon is switched (meaning either player)? A. Yes.
