With Expedition Gengar's "Chaos Move" Poke-Power, can I move a damage counter from one of my Pokemon to one of my opponent's Pokemon? A. Yes, you can. Older rulings did not allow for this, but it has been recently confirmed from Japan that it is permissible. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == ENERGY GROUNDING (Lanturn - EX:Hidden Legends) Q. Say you use Blastoise-EX's attack against a Pokemon with 1 basic energy on it, and you flip heads to discard the energy. Can the opponent's Lanturn use its "Energy Grounding" Poke-POWER to retreive the energy that was discarded? A. Blastoise-EX discards the energy before the check for Knock Out occurs. So since the energy was not actually on the Pokemon when it got KO'd, Lanturn would not be able to retrieve it via Energy Grounding. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == ENERGY RAIN (Blastoise EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. When I use Blastoise-EX to "Energy Rain" several energies onto one of my Pokemon, do I have to place one damage counter for each energy that was attached in this manner? Or do I get to place only one counter regardless of how many energies I attach to that Pokemon? A. You can use the "Energy Rain" Poke-POWER as many times as you like during your turn (before your attack), but you must place one counter per energy that gets attached. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == FORM VARIATION (Ditto - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Say I have Ditto from FR/LG on my bench and it has been a couple of turns. Now say I use Ditto's power & switch it with a Weedle from my discard pile. Can I on the same turn evolve it into Kakuna or do I have to wait a turn to "evolve normally"? A. As long as it is not Ditto's first turn in play, you can evolve the new Pokemon into a subsequent evolutionary stage. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == LEGENDARY ASCENT (Articuno EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green; Moltres EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green; Zapdos EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. The "Legendary Ascent" Poke-POWER says, "...you may switch 1 of your Active Pokemon with Articuno-EX/Moltres-EX/Zapdos-EX. If you do, you may also move any number of basic W/F/L energy cards attached to your Pokemon to Articuno-EX/Moltres-EX/Zapdos-EX." Now, can you move energy from all of your benched pokemon, or just from the Pokemon that is forced to the bench by the power? A. The last line of the text says "attached to YOUR Pokemon" meaning you can move energy from any of your Pokemon onto the one using "Legendary Ascent". If it had said, "attached to THAT Pokemon", then you would only be able to move it from the one that got sent to the bench. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) Q. Does Muk's "Toxic Gas" prevent the "Legendary Ascent" Poke-POWER found on the legendary birds of FireRed/LeafGreen from happening? A. No, "coming into play" powers like "Legendary Ascent" are not prevented by "Toxic Gas". (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == RETREAT AID (Dodrio - Jungle; Dodrio - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Is Dodrio's "Retreat Aid" Pokémon Power cumulative? A. Yes it is. Each Dodrio would reduce the retreat cost additionally. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == SAFEGUARD (Wobbuffet - EX:Sandstorm; Ninetales - EX:Hidden Legends; Dewgong - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) [CHRISBO NOTE: Change header to also include Ninetales & Dewgong.] Q. Charizard-EX's "Burn Down" attack says it is not affected by Poke-BODYs, etc. So when going up against Wobbuffet, Ninetales, or Dewgong with "Safeguard", which takes precedence? A. Charizard-EX's attack specifically states to ignore Poke-BODY's, so in this case the attack gets through "Safeguard". (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == BURN DOWN (Charizard EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) Q. Charizard-EX's "Burn Down" attack says it is not affected by "any other effects on the Defending Pokemon". Does that mean it gets around Tools like Buffer Piece, or other trainer cards like Defender? A. Yes, trainers attached to the Defending Pokemon do not alter the amount of damage from Charizard-EX's Burn Down attack. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == HYPER WHIRLPOOL (Blastoise EX - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Blastoise-EX's "Hyper Whirlpool" attack says, "...for each heads, your opponent discards an Energy card attached to the Defending Pokémon". Does my opponent choose the Energy card discarded, or does the attacker? A. Your opponent would choose which Energy cards to discard. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == PICKUP (Raticate - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Raticate's "Pickup" attack says you get a basic Pokemon, a Trainer, and an Energy. What happens if you don't have one of each of those in your discard pile? Can you still take what you do have? A. If you are missing any of the three cards specified in the attack, you can still search for the others and put them into your hand. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) Q. For Raticate's "Pickup" attack, is it mandatory to take one of each kind of card (basic Pokemon, trainer, energy) if they are available in my discard pile? Or could I choose to pick a Trainer and an Energy, but not a basic Pokemon? A. If there is at least one of those three types of cards in your discard pile, you MUST choose one if available. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == POWER LARIAT (Nidoqueen - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Is Nidoqueen included as an "evolved Pokemon" in its "Power Lariat" attack? A. Yes, Nidoqueen counts itself. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == SIGNS OF EVOLUTION (Wurmple - EX: Ruby/Sapphire; Caterpie - EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. For Caterpie's new move, do you have to get a Metapod AND a Butterfree? What if you only find one or the other, can you just get that? A. If you have both Metapod and Butterfree in your deck, you MUST take one of each; it is not optional. However, if you do not have one of the two, you still must take the one that you do find in your deck. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == SLIMY WATER (Muk EX - EX:Dragon) Q. Team Aqua Hideout reads, "Each Pokemon that does not have Team Aqua in its name pays (*) more to retreat." So does Muk-EX's "Slimy Water" attack add +10 damage because of this stadium? A. Yes, that is correct. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == STEEL WAVE (Registeel EX - EX:Hidden Legends) Q. If Registeel-EX does "Steel Wave" against a Pokemon that is dual-type (like Team Aqua's Walrein that is both Darkness & Water), then would it affect any benched Pokemon that are of either of its individual types (like Spheal and Absol in this example)? A. Yes. A dual-type Pokemon represents both of its types, so Steel Wave would affect any Pokemon that are of any of those two specified types. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == STRIKE AND RUN (Dunsparce - EX:Sandstorm) Q. If you have a full bench can you "Strike and Run" for 0 basics, shuffle your deck, then switch with a benched Pokemon? A. No. You must be able to have room on your bench in order to do any part of the "Strike and Run" attack. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == MT. MOON (EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Mt. Moon says, "Any pokemon (both yours and your opponent's) with maximum HP less than 70 can't use any Poke-Powers." Does that mean that they can still use Poke-BODY's? A. Yes, you can still use Poke-BODY's when Mt. Moon is in play. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == PROFESSOR OAK'S RESEARCH (Expedition; EX:Fire Red / Leaf Green) Q. Can I have 4 "Professor Oak's Research" (Expedition) plus 4 more "Prof. Oak's Research" (FR/LG) in a deck? Their titles are not exactly the same! A. Sorry, but "Prof." is merely an abbreviation for the word "Professor". They are to be treated as the same card, so you can only have a total of four (not eight) in your deck. (Sep 9, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == TEAM AQUA HIDEOUT (EX:Team Magma/Team Aqua) Q. Team Aqua Hideout reads, "Each Pokemon that does not have Team Aqua in its name pays (*) more to retreat." So does Muk-EX's "Slimy Water" attack add +10 damage because of this stadium? A. Yes, that is correct.
