----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pokemon Chat Report - Thursday, July 27, 2000 - Rules Only Version by Ka-Lok Fung - Scrye Contributing Editor ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Scrye_Fung: So, after reading R&D's ruling from last week, the only way a Pokemon can evolve on the first turn is through either Eevee's Chain Reaction of TR Magikarp's Rapid Evolution? Otherwise, the normal "Pokemon must be in play for at least one turn" is still in effect? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Yes, essentially, though I don't know a single way you could do TR Magikarp's Rapid Evolution on the first turn." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Ninetales2000: If a Promo Eevee is against a Ditto, can the ditto us the power just tolook through his/her deck without evolving? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Nope. Ditto can't evolve, so can't even do that." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Scrye_Fung: If Movie Promo Mewtwo attacks with Energy Absorption, and one of the cards attached from the discard pile is Rainbow Energy, that energy does not do any damage to Mewtwo (since the card was not played from the hand) but can still be consider Psychic energy? You've given different answers in different chats in the past and I'll like a correct ruling on this one. Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Yes, no damage from doing that and the energy can count as whatever type(basic type) you want." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Scrye_Fung: Last week you made a reversal on whether Dk Gyarados' Final Beam power works or not if the attack that knocks him out also paralyzes him. Checking past transcripts, this ruling has flip-flopped a couple of times (Mike says one way, Pat says another); can we get an official ruling from R&D on this one please? Thanks from TEAM COMPENDIUM. Master_Trainer_Pat says, "We really do try to be consistent with this stuff, but sometimes... Yes, Final Beam works in this situation." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from AshFairy: If Clefable metronomes MagiKarp's Rapid Evolution, would it be leagal to evolve it into Gyrados? My guess is no. Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Yes, if you have Gyarados in your deck." Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from JabDaggar: Is 'gust of wind' considered retreating? Like could I use Dark Dugtrio's Pitfall after a Gust of wind? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "Gust of wind is not considered retreating...you couldn't use pitfall for that" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from llcor57: is there a limit to the number of times you can scoop up a pokemon in one turn? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "No" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from soslowpoke: my Gym Leader at the league isn't allowing Ancient Mew, is there any way I can get it played? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "That decision is up to your Gym Leader, but Ancient Mew is legal for tournament play if you use black-backed sleeves" Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from zackarino: for the ancient Mew card can we play it if we put a regular card behindit in a plastic thing so it hides the foil? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "that's questionable...it would be heavier than the regular cards so in a way that would be like having a marked card which is illegal by DCI standards" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Supra: If D. Gyrados got knocked out by D. Golbats power, would it still do final beam? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "No, because Final Beam will only trigger if D. Gyarados is knocked out by an attack." Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from firetrainer: You can't evolve a mysterious you just put into play right? Because some said you could and I think they are wrong. Master_Trainer_Galen says, "that's right" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Autobot: If Clefariy metranomes Double-Edge does 'Clefairy K.O. herself? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Yes." Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from Meowth52: If I use a pokemon trade or energy search and there are no energy or pokemon in my deck, then do I have to show my deck to my opponent? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "You only have to show your opponent the cards you got when you place them in your hand..you shuffle your deck afterwords" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from firetrainer: What is the finnal ruling on move energy cards that count as two energies. like electrode that has been changed to grass energy. Can it be energy trans? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "They can be as long as there isn't a limit on how many you can transfer that way." Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from Jonathan2: will basic electrode be able to buzzap and become dark energies? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "probably...as the dark energies haven't been officially translated yet..we will just have to wait and see for sure" Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from lili_slickgirl: Are What happens if Mew uses Psywave and the opponent doesn't have energy on the pokemon? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "it wouldn't do any damage" Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from lili_slickgirl: Does Porygon's Conversion 2 work if I use a pluspower? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "plus power only deals more damage if damage can be done...plus power attached to an attack that does no damage would be useless..itwouldn't do any damage" Master_Trainer_Galen presents the speaker with a question from Autobot: Can Rainbow Energy be moved around without using Venasaur's power Energy Trans? Master_Trainer_Galen says, "if it is counting as a water energy then "Rain Dance" could move it around...if it was already in play..not if it was in your hand" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with a question from Meowth52: I don't think clefairy can evolve into gyarados. it says on magikarp "this counts as evolving magikarp" which would mean the evolution would have to be legal. on gyarados the card says "evolves from Magikarp" and NOT clefairy/clefable Master_Trainer_Pat says, "I'm only telling you how R&D has ruled on it and theystate: Clefairy/Clefable could evolve if you Metronomed an attack like Rapid Evolution _and_ you had a Gyardos in your deck."
