        When a card's attack "does damage to itself", is this damage consideredto be an ATTACK against the Defending Pokemon? Let's say you had an Electabuzz versus a TR Porygon and TR Porygon switched Electabuzz's Weakness to Lightning. You Thunderpunched with Electabuzz and flipped tails. Would Electabuzz receive 10 or 20 damage? Furthermore, would Defender prevent this damage? (Defender prevents damage from attacks).
Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Well, assuming it was an attack that did damage to itself then defender would help with that damage."

Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #7 from Scrye_Fung:
        If an attack Knocks Outs and Paralyzes Gyarados at the same time, wouldhe be able to do Final Beam. The rule book, page 21: "f) ... Do any damage first, then do any other effects, and finally, Knock Out ....". However page 22 indicates that you do g) Powers before i) status effects (thus coming to a "yes" conlcusion last week). According to page 21, the attack will paralyze Gyarados, disable Final Beam, then Knock Out Gyarados without him able to do Final Beam. Does"g) relevant Pokemon powers" on page 22 is refering to powers that modify the damage done, not Pokemon Powers which trigger when a Pokemon is Knocked Out?
Master_Trainer_Mike says, "The answer has already been ruled on.  Dark Gyaradoswould get off its final beam as it would take damage and be Knocked out BEFORE the attack efect (paralysis) goes into efect."

        Jungle Vileplume's Petal Dance attack says it becomes confused after doing damage.  If all 3 flips are tails and the attack does no damage, does it still become confused or does it not?

Master_Trainer_Mike says, "You only lose when you don't have any cards to draw on the card draw you must do on the start of your turn.  So you would lose on your next turn if you didn't somehow get some cards back into your deck."

        Since Ancient Mew is now legal in tournament play, how do you "prove" its translation?  With Japanese cards you must have an English equivalent.  Do I have to carry around the Pokemon League playmat in my pocket or what?

Master_Trainer_Pat says, "I asume you mean the WB Mewtwo...Yes it can."

        In a previous chat session you guys stated that if a Pokémon knocks outa Dark Gyarados with an attack that causes paralysis on a coin flip and the flip is heads, Dark Gyarados still may use its Pokémon Power: Final Beam since it was knocked out before the paralysis was applied, however, the rulebook says thatPokemon are knocked out after effects are applied, even if the Pokemon already has taken enough damage to KO it, can yo uplease explain the ruling?
Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Not really, there are some things that R&D is discussing with Japan about timing in the game.  For now, our answers stands but do keep in mind they are subject to change."
