----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pokemon Chat Report - Thursday, August 03, 2000 by Ka-Lok Fung - Scrye Contributing Editor Log by Pokemn61, Associate Member of Team Compendium NOTE: Numbering was ADDED by Team Compendium, the original chat did NOT have numbers!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #4 from Scrye_Fung: When a card's attack "does damage to itself", is this damage consideredto be an ATTACK against the Defending Pokemon? Let's say you had an Electabuzz versus a TR Porygon and TR Porygon switched Electabuzz's Weakness to Lightning. You Thunderpunched with Electabuzz and flipped tails. Would Electabuzz receive 10 or 20 damage? Furthermore, would Defender prevent this damage? (Defender prevents damage from attacks). Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Well, assuming it was an attack that did damage to itself then defender would help with that damage." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #7 from Scrye_Fung: If an attack Knocks Outs and Paralyzes Gyarados at the same time, wouldhe be able to do Final Beam. The rule book, page 21: "f) ... Do any damage first, then do any other effects, and finally, Knock Out ....". However page 22 indicates that you do g) Powers before i) status effects (thus coming to a "yes" conlcusion last week). According to page 21, the attack will paralyze Gyarados, disable Final Beam, then Knock Out Gyarados without him able to do Final Beam. Does"g) relevant Pokemon powers" on page 22 is refering to powers that modify the damage done, not Pokemon Powers which trigger when a Pokemon is Knocked Out? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "The answer has already been ruled on. Dark Gyaradoswould get off its final beam as it would take damage and be Knocked out BEFORE the attack efect (paralysis) goes into efect." Master_Trainer_Mike says, "This has been ruled on before and this is the official answer." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #29 from firetrainer: If you use gambler and it was the last card in your hand do you still have to shuffle your deck. Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Yup" Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #32 from Chrisbo: Jungle Vileplume's Petal Dance attack says it becomes confused after doing damage. If all 3 flips are tails and the attack does no damage, does it still become confused or does it not? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "If it doesn't do damage then it doeesn't get confused." Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Excuse me on the Vileplume answer. The card states''Vileplume is now confused"" Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #37 from CrystalMew: With Dark Alakazam's Teleport Blast attack do you have to switch Pokémon? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Nope, it says you "may". Your choice." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #43 from Chrisbo: What happens if I use Prof.Oak and have less than 7 cards left in my deck? Do I lose immediately, or do I draw out the remainder of my deck and lose at the beginning of my next turn (if I don't do anything to replenish the deck like Recycle, Mr.Fuji, Master_Trainer_Mike says, "You only lose when you don't have any cards to draw on the card draw you must do on the start of your turn. So you would lose on your next turn if you didn't somehow get some cards back into your deck." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #45 from Chrisbo: Since Ancient Mew is now legal in tournament play, how do you "prove" its translation? With Japanese cards you must have an English equivalent. Do I have to carry around the Pokemon League playmat in my pocket or what? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "You'll have to have a special decoder ring..." Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Just kiddin' I would expect good trainers to know that card." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #53 from Jonathan2: if ditto is against a clefable, can it keep on metrenoming metrenome and not consider STALLING? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Nope." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #55 from Calathon: Can you clarify this ruling from a previous chat? It seems to be wrong.Since it only has 10HP, Swapping any counters to it would KO. Q. Could I DamageSwap damage counters to Clefairy Dolls, since it says, "Clefairy Doll doesn't count as a Knocked Ou Master_Trainer_Mike says, "A Clefiary Doll would be taken out this way but not count as Knocked out so no prize card lost." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #56 from firetrainer: Can mewtwo pull any energy from the discard pile, such as rainbow energy? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "I asume you mean the WB Mewtwo...Yes it can." Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Furthermore, putting a Rainbow energy on from your discard pile won't make Mewtwo take 10 damage" Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #77 from PokeDoc_Rabideau: In a previous chat session you guys stated that if a Pokémon knocks outa Dark Gyarados with an attack that causes paralysis on a coin flip and the flip is heads, Dark Gyarados still may use its Pokémon Power: Final Beam since it was knocked out before the paralysis was applied, however, the rulebook says thatPokemon are knocked out after effects are applied, even if the Pokemon already has taken enough damage to KO it, can yo uplease explain the ruling? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Not really, there are some things that R&D is discussing with Japan about timing in the game. For now, our answers stands but do keep in mind they are subject to change." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #81 from Scrye_Fung: When a card's attack "does damage to itself", is this damage consideredto be an ATTACK against the Defending Pokemon? Let's say you had an Electabuzz versus a TR Porygon and TR Porygon switched Electabuzz's Weakness to Lightning. You Thunderpunched with Electabuzz and flipped tails. Would Electabuzz receive 10 or 20 damage? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "20, it is considered an attack." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #85 from will94: Why does Ancient Mew have to be in an opaque black sleeve? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Because otherwise it would count as a marked card." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #87 from Wild_Psychic_Mew: Does Alakazam's Damage Swap Pokemon Power apply Weakness and Resistance? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Nope, it is NOT an attack." Master_Trainer_Pat says, "No." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #90 from lili_slickgirl: can i play an ancient mew card without an oquaqe back sleeve but with apokemon card in the back to cover? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Nope." Master_Trainer_Mike says, "It would be too thick tat way." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #91 from Wild_Psychic_Mew: My Dark Raichu says evolves from Pikachu Put Raichu on the Stage 1 card. Is that a mistake? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Yes." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #95 from Polyester_Dash_DJZ: Now, if two cards, which may be different, have the same name, they areconsidered the same card, and must have a 4 card per deck limit. Now, I was wondering about Japanese cards...I think it's been mentioned that you may play Japanese cards in your d Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Yes... and...Japanese don't count as different named cards if that's what you were going to say./?" Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #96 from firetrainer: If my dark charlizard was hit with smoke sceen. what order would I do the attack? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "You would check for Smolescreen BEFORE you flip coins for the attack and then later discard fire energy." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #97 from Wild_Psychic_Mew: Can Clefairy, Clefable, or Dark Wartortle evolve into Gyarados or Dark Gyarados? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "It is possible for Clefable or Clefairy to MetronomeTR Magickarp's Rapid Evolution and thus evolve into Gyarados or Dark Gyarados, yes." Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Dark Wartortle?? No. Clefairy, Clefable Yes." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #98 from CrystalMew: If I use Dark Alakazam's Teleport Blast attack do I have to switch my Pokémon or can Dark Alakazam remain active? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "You have the coice, it says "may"." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #111 from gunterl: can i take all 9 cards with nightly garbage run? official ruling please. Master_Trainer_Mike says, "What do you mean? You can only return 3 cards (energy or Pokemon only)." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #113 from Ninetales2000: Clefable CAN use MP Moltres's Hyper Flame if the Clefable had a Fire energy, right? What about a Rainbow energy? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "That would work too." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #130 from zoink300: on the jungle Seaking card it says put Seaking on the Stage 1 card, Seaking is the stage 1 card so could you evolve Seaking into Seaking and cure ailments? Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Nope" Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #131 from gunterl: if i use venusaur promo's megadrain, can i take off 20 damage COUNTERS?the card says take off a number of damage COUNTERS equal to half the damage done to the defending pokemon. Master_Trainer_Mike says, "No, don't be silly." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #135 from Chrisbo: The Jungle Vileplume card says "Vileplume is now confused (after doing damage)". So what if NO DAMAGE is done? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "It is still confused." Master_Trainer_Mike says, "It is just stating when you would place the confusion effect." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #136 from DBD127: I'm new to this chat and my screen wasn't set up right. I don't know if you answered my question or not but...here goes one last time: Can multiple Defenders be attached to one Pokemon to prevent a "self destruct" attack from killing themselves? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Sure." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #152 from Mr_mystery: Are you sure about the Metronome Rapid Evolution thing? You're breakingyour own rules with that ruling. It says in the rulebook, "if it evolves from so-and-so". Clefairy/Fable isn't so-and-so, since it has no picture of it in the corner of a gyarados Master_Trainer_Mike says, "That is the OFFICIAL answer from Japan my friend." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #174 from DBD127: Can multiple Plus Power trainers be attached to a pokemon to cause extra damage? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Sure." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #181 from pokefreak75: If you put a normal card behind Ancient Mew can you use it Master_Trainer_Mike says, "Nope." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #183 from pokefreak75: People at my league say Blastoise is a satge 3 I think different who isright Master_Trainer_Mike says, "He is a stage 2." Master_Trainer_Mike presents the speaker with question #186 from will94: what is a marked card? Master_Trainer_Mike says, "A card that you can tell what it is by a galnce (without seeing the front). It might have a different back, be scractehd or writtenon in some way, be more worn out than the other cards, etc." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #187 from Polyester_Dash_DJZ: Ugh. I truly blame ichat for that...it's been mentioned you may play Japanese cards in your DECK, but Japanese cards don't necessarily have the same names as their American counterparts. So, what about this loophole? Or will you simply allow us to put Master_Trainer_Pat says, "It will be counted as the same name as the English version." Master_Trainer_Pat presents the speaker with question #188 from gunterl: garbage run says 3 pokemon, 3 evolutions AND/OR 3 energies. that could mean 9 cards... Master_Trainer_Pat says, "Nope"
