Will a Poliwhirl attached to a Brock's Nintales count towards Politoed's Frog Song? A. Yes it will. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q260) == GAZE (Igglybuff - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. My opponent has a Sabrina's Gastly on the bench with one psychic energy attached and 50 damage, I use Igglybuff to stop its power. First of all, is it knocked out and can I use Iggly's power again? A. First your math is wrong, it would already be knocked out in the case you listed (it has 40 hp, would have 50 hp with 1 psychic energy attached). However, assuming you meant it had 40 damage on it, then using Igglybuff against it would Knock it out. You would NOT be able to use Iggly's Pokemon power again that turn. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q236) == STRIKES BACK (Machamp - Base Set) Q. Can Strikes Back trigger Strikes Back (if two base Machamps face each other)? A. No it's not an attack. Make sure you check the wording on the cards. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q410) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == BUBBLES (Misty's Poliwag - Gym: Challenge Expansion Q. Since Sputter's effect goes away when Magby is benched, evolved, or knocked out, does the same apply for Misty's Poliwag's Bubbles attack? A. Yes. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q295) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. Say I used Misty's Poliwag's Bubbles and flip tails. Then Misty's Poliwag somehow goes to the bench and then become active again, can I use Bubbles again? Or say I scoop up Misty's Poliwag after using (and flipping tails on) Bubbles then play it again and put the energy on it; could I use bubbles again? A. You cannot. It says 'this attack cannot be used next turn.' (Feb 8, 2001 WotC Chat, Q23 & Q53) == CRUNCH (Houndoom - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. If Houndoom does "Crunch", the +20 effect ends when the defending pokemon is benched. However, what happens if the Houndoom gets benched? Does the effect reside on the Defending pokemon only, or does it require that the Houndoom stay active too? A. Benching Houndoom does not end the effect. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q265) == LOCK-ON (Magnemite - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. In relation to the Sputter ruling, for Magnemite lvl 16 (metal), If Lock-on is used and Magnemite#1 is knocked out and my new Magnemite(#2) is now active do we need a NEW Lock-on or does old Lock-on work for new Magnemite(#2)? A. Yes, you do. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q355) == MIRROR SHELL (Dark Wartortle - Team Rocket Expansion) Q. If Dark Wartortle is somehow moved to the bench during your opponent's next turn after using Mirror Shell, and then is damaged, does the counter effect still go off? A. No, it goes away when Dark Wartortle is benched. The effect references Dark Wartortle, if it gets benched, or evolved, or devolved, that effect ends. This is one of the basic rules of the game. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q262 & Q371) Q. Say Ditto uses Wartortle's Mirror Shell. Then during the turn that Ditto's Mirror is in effect, I evolve mine into Dark Blastoise and attack with Rocket Tackle. (a) Is Ditto's effect still there because of the self reference in the attack? and (b) If yes, would a heads on Rocket Tackle prevent it? A. A Yes. B. No. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q273) == PAINT (Smeargle - Promo) Q. For Smeargle, we haven't seen an official answer yet, but if you Paint a Dark Pokemon like Murkrow into Grass, he now takes damage from the Darkness Energy, right? A. He gets damage counters put on at the end of the turn, yes. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q375 & Q390) == RAINBOW WAVE (Mew - Southern Islands Expansion) Q. If I put a Rainbow Energy on Southern Islands Mew, can I hit every non-colorless Pokemon on the opponent's side or do I have to pick a single color only? Can the Rainbow be treated as "all colors" in this instance? A. Nope, you must choose an ENERGY type meaning fire, water, darkness, etc. NOT an ENERGY CARD type like Rainbow. You have to choose one energy type to do damage to. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q234) Q. If I have a SI Mew with Rainbow Energy attached, can I pick Dark or Steel as a type? A. Yes. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q264) Q. If I just have a Rainbow Energy on Southern Islands Mew, will that pay for both the P attack cost and also allow me to choose another color of Pokemon to do the damage to? A. Yes. But you only do damage to one type of Pokemon. Rainbow counts as all types but only provides one energy. You choose what type of Pokemon you want to do damage to when you use this attack with Rainbow Energy attached. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q233 & Q286 & Q345) == SHARPSHOOTER (Exeggutor - Southern Islands Expansion) Q. With SI Exeggutor can you use Meganium's Wild Growth to make every grass energy on the Sharpshooter attack flip twice? A. That's correct. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q432) == SWIFT (Misty's Staryu - Gym: Heroes Expansion, Cyndaquil - Neo: Genesis Expansion, Electabuzz - Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. If base set Mewtwo used it's Barrier attack and if a pokemon used Swift, would Swift cause damage? A. Yes it would. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q263) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNOWN CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == COMPUTER ERROR (promo card) Q. On May 18 2000 you said when asked about drawing zero cards using Computer Error, "Nope you must declare from 1 to 5 cards, and then draw that many". I just wanted to clarify if this is still correct or if zero cards is an option. Thanks. A. 0 is an acceptable amount to call. That's one of those ones where we just answered as though the player wouldn't have played the card unless they wanted to at least draw one card. Certainly they can draw zero cards if they want. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q279) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN CLARIFIED; See Above ***** Q. On Computer Error, can you draw 0 cards? Also, do you declare how many you are drawing, then draw, or can you stop before 5? A. Nope you must declare from 1 to 5 cards, and then draw that many. (May 18, 2000 WotC Chat, Q4) == ECOGYM (Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. Did you solve my little Hyper Beam KOing a Pokemon with Ecogym in play problem? A. Sure its easy. The damage is applied first, if that is enough to Knock out the Defending Pokemon you are done, it is Knocked Out BEFORE any energy is removed due to the rest of the attack's effects. So, there is no issue in that case. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q246) == ROCKET'S MINEFIELD GYM (Gym: Challenge Expansion) Q. Does your opponent have to flip for cards played with Erika's Perfume with a Rocket's Minefield Gym in play? A. No, they do not because you're playing the Pokemon not them with Erika's Perfume. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q254) == SPROUT TOWER (Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. A Clefable metronomes a Murkrow's Feint attack with Sprout Tower in play. Would Fable do 20 damage (not considering Dark energy) or 0 damage since Feint Attack says ignore all effects of the Defending Pokemon considering Sprout Tower be an universal effect for all pokemon in play? A. I believe it would do zero...but we'll check. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q337) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == RETREATING Q. Can you over pay retreat cost? I mean like if you wanted to get rid of a Darkness Energy from a free retreat pokemon, could you discard the darkness anyway when you retreat? A. No. (Aug 9, 2001 WotC Chat, Q311) xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx2xxxxxxxxx3xxxxxxxxx4xxxxxxxxx5xxxxxxxxx6xxxxxxxxx7xxxxxxxxx8
