On Lanturn's Power, Hydroelectric Power, it says you MAY make Floodlight do more damage for each energy. Does that mean you can choose exactly how much damage (if you have enough Energy) or does it mean all or nothing? A. It's all or nothing. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q121) == PLAYFUL PUNCH (Elekid - Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. If you have more than 1 Elekid in play, can all of them Playful Punch (for 20 damage each, assuming they all flip heads) or just one of them? A. Only one can, because your turn will end right after you do it. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q32) == SHAPESHIFT (Brock's Ninetales - Gym: Challenge Expansion) Q. If Brock's Ninetales has used Shapeshift to turn into Clefable, and the opponent plays Goop Gas Attack, is Clefable discarded or does Brock's Ninetales turn back into Clefable after the Goop Gas wears off? A. Check the last line on the Shapeshift text. The Goop Gas will shut off the P-mon Power and as a result cause any attached cards to be discarded. (Oct 19, 2000 WotC Chat, Q64; May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q53) == TRANSFORM (Ditto - Fossil Expansion) // Brock's Ninetales' Shapeshift Q. Ditto copying Brock's Ninetales. Shapeshift's Power states that "doesn't count as evolving". Therefore, since you're technically not evolving, Ditto can say become a Blastoise without the ability to Rain Dance water Energy right? What happens when I Knock Out Brock's Ninetales and Blastoise is still on Ditto? Does Ditto remain as Blastoise? Does the Blastoise card get discarded? Will Ditto (also Blastoise) be Knocked Out? Does the attached card stay on Ditto (out of play though) if his Pokemon Power is somehow turned off? A. Brock's Ninetales' Shapeshift doesn't let you evolve, just 'attach'. If Ditto Knock Outs Brock's Ninetales, Ditto will no longer have Shapeshift and will revert to being Ditto. That would be the same as shutting off the [Shapeshift] power. The Blastoise card gets discarded. This has been clarified for your enjoyment:). (Oct 12, 2000 WotC Chat, Q20 & Q105; May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q101 & Q105) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. If Ditto is up against a Brock's Ninetales, can it use the Shapeshift Pokemon Power to search for an evolution card to attach to Ditto (since it's not truly evolving, I think you can). And when Ditto transforms into something else the evolution is discarded, ya? A. You can't use the Shapeshift power to search. If Ditto uses the Shapeshift Pokemon Power to attach a Pokemon to it, and then Ditto's Pokemon Power is turned off somehow, the card that is attached to Ditto stays right where it is and doesn't have any further affect on the game [Ed.Note: cannot even use attacks from the attached card] unless that Ditto manages to copy Brock's Ninetales again. (Nov 2, 2000 WotC Chat Announcements & Q301; Nov 9, 2000 WotC Chat, Q568) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** *If Ditto is copying Brock's Ninetales and then has an evolution card attached and then Ditto loses its Pokemon power (thus changing back to Ditto and the evolution card is still attached but does NOT affect Ditto) and then regains its Transform Power and changes back into Brock's Ninetales, it would change back into its last state of "Brock's Ninetales being treated as the attached evolution card". It does NOT turn into Brock's Ninetales and then reshapeshift into the attached card. There is a difference. Ditto remembers what it was in its last state and when it retransforms that memory is still there. This is why you can't keep benching Ditto to reuse a once per turn Pokemon power that the Defending Pokemon has (such as Gengar's Curse). (Nov 16, 2000 WotC Chat Announcements) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == INTIMIDATE (Giovanni's Nidoking - Gym: Challenge Expansion) Q. If you have a Giovanni's Nidoking active opposite a Murkrow and used Intimidate, would Murkrow be able to use Feint Attack and attack a benched Pokemon? A. You can't attack with Murkrow. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q58) == METRONOME (Clefairy - Base Set, Clefable - Jungle Expansion) Q. Defender has Sabrina's Alakazam active, other Psychic Pokémon on bench. Attacker has Clefable active. Can attacker Metronome through Psylink to use the defender's benched Pokémon attacks, as Sabrina's Alakazam's power says Sabrina's Alakazam has a copy of all it's benched Pokémon's attacks? But, Clefable can't use the attacker's benched Pokémon's attacks because Clefable doesn't have the Psylink power? A. Yes, as long as Sabrina's Alakazam's Power is working. You can Metronome only attacks that Sabrina's Alakazam has. Since it has a copy of all Psychic attacks when Psylink is active, you can Metronome these. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q69 & Q80 & Q140) == OBSCURING GAS (Koga's Koffing Lv. 15 - Gym: Challenge Expansion) Q. If the coin flip for Obscuring Gas is heads, but if the Defending pokemon causes enough recoil damage (i.e. from Mirror Shell, Shock Blast, etc.) to knock out the attacker, does Koga's Koffing go back into the deck or is it KO'd? A. It would be KO'd. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q37) == WATER GUN (Poliwag - Base Set, Vaporeon - Jungle Expansion, Marill - Promo, others) Q. What is wrong with the Marril Promo? A. It should have done the extra damage with Water energy only, but the way it's worded you can use any extra energy to do the extra damage. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q56) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == BLAINE (Gym: Challenge Expansion) Q. Can you use the Blaine trainer to attach one fire energy each to two separate Blaine's pokemon? A. Nope. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q38) Q. OK, Chaos Gym is in play, and you play a Blaine but it fails (your opponent plays it). Since it says No additional copies can be played, could you still play another one and use the effect because your opponent used it, not you? A. Yes, you can due to the wording on Chaos Gym. It says that on a result of tails you can't play that card. [Ed.Note: But the opponent can't use the Blaine trainer either because they don't have a normal energy attachment during YOUR turn.] (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q28 & Q104) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == CARDS IN GENERAL Q. If a person has Japanese Dark Vileplumes in his deck, and has a non-holo English Dark Vileplume (the fighting weakness), must he use the Japanese card as with fighting weakness only, or can he choose before the game what it is? What about Slowking? If you have a Japanese Slowing in your deck, and an American one for translation, because of the slight difference in interpretation, will the English translation be used?? A. You would play the card as is...in other words, use the weakness listed on the Japanese Dark Vileplume. Use your english card to reference any other text on the card. Even I can tell what the Weakness is on that Japanese card. (May 10, 2001 WotC Chat, Q91) xxxxxxxxx1xxxxxxxxx2xxxxxxxxx3xxxxxxxxx4xxxxxxxxx5xxxxxxxxx6xxxxxxxxx7xxxxxxxxx8
