The "can't use this attack next turn" sets up a status effect that can be ended through the normal means: benching, leaving play, evolving or devolving. In each of these cases it is no longer the same Pokemon and so it gets around the once per turn or not usuable next turn effects. With Pokemon Powers though, you can't get around the once per turn by benching. Benching a Pokemon does NOT get around these effects as they are still the same Pokemon and still in play. [Ed.Note: This does not apply to Tentacool Lv.10 (Fossil) which specifically states in the text of the power that it cannot be used on the same turn it comes into play.] (Sep 27, 2001 WotC Chat, after-Q53; Feb 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q18; May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q266) == HOWL (Entei - Neo: Revelation Expansion) Q. When holo Entei comes into play can you attach the discarded fire energies from the Howl power to the Entei itself, or do they have to go on an already in play Pokémon ? A. Yes, you can [attach them to Entei]. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q306) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == MIRROR MOVE (Pidgeotto - Jungle Expansion, Spearow - Base Set) Q. If an opponent's attack damages my benched Pidgeotto, can Pidgeotto then do "Mirror Move" during my next turn and attack for the amount of damage it received while on the bench? A. Yes. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q273) == SKETCH (Smeargle - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. A confused pokemon attempts to attack a Smeargle and fails; what happens if Smeargle uses Sketch? Would it be able to attack itself for 20? A. Sketch will copy the attack that the Confused Pokemon attempted. It does not attack itself as if it was Confused. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q276) Q. If I have a Smeargle (with Sketch) with a Double Colorless Energy attached and I want to copy Dark Charizard's Continuous Fireball attack which was used last turn, what happens there? A. It wouldn't do anything unless you had some fire energy attached to Smeargle. It is not an "in order to" effect that would normally be ignored. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q340) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNOWN CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == MAGNIFIER (Neo: Destiny Expansion) Q. I noticed that the Magnifier trainer doesn't say "Pokemon Tool" on the card; does this mean that I can attach it to a pokemon that already has a "tool" (like Berry, etc.) on it? A. Yes, Magnifier is not a Pokemon Tool. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q274) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == ATTACKING * ANY Pokemon attack or Power that can only be used once per turn, is reset if that Pokemon evolves or devolves or leaves play and that power or attack could be used again if that Pokemon came into play again that same turn. In Team Play, when an attack like Kakuna's "Secrete Poison" or "Agility" specifies the phrase "during your opponent's next turn", does that count for both opponents or do you have to choose one of the opponents to have the effect during their turn only? A. You would have to specify which opponent. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q303) == CONDUCTIVITY (Dark Ampharos - Neo: Destiny Expansion) Q. In Team Play, if my partner and I both have Dark Ampharsoses (or is it "Ampharese"?), would one of them cancel out the other, or would the opposing team member get hit by "Conductivity" twice when they attach a single energy card? A. You and your opponent could have one each in play, though you still have to announce which opponent your Dark Ampharos is affecting. When you bring out a Pokemon that has a Continual Pokemon Power that says "opponent" such as Slowking or Dark Ampharos, you must declare WHICH opponent it is targeting. In the Dark Ampharos example, each of you could have one in play and you could both choose 1 of the opponents as the target, but then the other is NOT affected by it. Or you could each choose 1, your choice. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q328 & Q337) Q. So if both teammates have Dark Ampharos they can both target the same opponent, and when that opponent attaches an energy does it take 20 damage (one for each Dark Ampharos)? A. Correct. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q343) == COUNTER (Wobbuffet - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. In Team Play, when I use Wobbuffet's "Counter" attack is the effect present during both of my opponents' turns? A. You need to choose a specific opponent when you use this attack. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q298) == EEEEEEEK! (Cleffa - Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. During my turn, can I have my Cleffa "Eeeeeeek!" and tell my teammate to shuffle their hand & draw 7 cards? A. Yes you can! (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q331) == MIND GAMES (Slowking - Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. TMP Q: Slowking's Mind Games only effects one opponent now, right? If so why was this change made? A. Yes, it's too strong otherwise and it didn't really fit in to the existing rules framework due to the text of its power. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q294) == PERISH SONG (Misdreavus - Neo: Revelation Expansion) Q. In Team Play, if both I and my partner have Misdreavus, can we have Player 1 do "Night Eyes" and Player 2 do "Perish Song" for the KO (providing the opponent is still asleep)? Or does Player 1 have to do the "Perish Song" in order for it to work? A. Yes, that nasty little trick works. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q297) == PROFESSOR ELM (Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. If I allow my teammate to play my Prof. Elm during my turn, how should we handle the "you can't play any more Trainer Cards this turn" clause? Am I prevented, or can I just no longer allow my teammate any trainers for the remainder of my turn? A. Elm becomes interesting. If you choose to use Elm on your teammate he or she also becomes the one "who can't play any Trainers this turn". You could still play other Trainers on your teammate as YOU are the one playing them, your teammate is just the one being affected by them. You could Elm your teammate 4 times if you wanted to, though since it is not their turn and they can't play anything I'm not sure why you would. You could play Elm, on them, then Elm on you if you wanted. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q329) Q. So if I Elm for my partner and their turn has already passed, does the No Trainers effect carry over to my partner's next turn? A. Nope, it says "this turn" which means that they can't play any trainers during YOUR turn. Neat huh? (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q338) Q. If I use a Professor Elm trainer can I then put down a Gold Berry, Focus Band etc.? A. In Team Multiplay, you could do so only if you used the Elm on your teammate. If you use the Elm on yourself, you cannot. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q341) == RETREAT AID (Dodrio - Jungle Expansion) * If you bring out a Dodrio, you must declare whether you are having Retreat Aid targeting YOU or your TEAM MATE. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q337) == SECRETE POISON (Kakuna - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. In Team Play, when an attack like Kakuna's "Secrete Poison" or "Agility" specifies the phrase "during your opponent's next turn", does that count for both opponents or do you have to choose one of the opponents to have the effect during their turn only? A. You would have to specify which opponent. (May 23, 2002 WotC Chat, Q303) == SKETCH (Smeargle - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. In Team Play, can I use Smeargle's "Sketch" attack against the opponent that attacked my partner, or do they have to attack my Active? Also, if both opponents attack my active, can Smeargle choose which attack it will "Sketch"? A. You can use Smeargle's Sketch to copy an attack even if that attack was used against your team mate. This question brings up questions about "last turn" that we will bring to the rules meeting.
