(Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q67) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON POWERS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == DARK AURA (Tyranitar - Expedition Expansion) Q. If I place a Metal Energy on Expedition Tyranitar with "Dark Aura", does it still retain its special properties (-10 damage)? I think it would retain the properties like it does when Charizard does "Fire Spin" on it. A. Yes it does. (Nov 7, 2002 WotC Chat, Q306; Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q13) == LIGHTNING BURST (Raikou - Neo: Revelation Expansion) Q. Light Arcanine's and Expedition Feraligatr's Pokemon Power (switches opponent's pokemon...) now should be played with the Pokemon Power having "may be used" in it instead of always being used. This was announced in a recent chat session. In that announcement this ruling also said to apply the ruling to any other cards that seemed similiar. Holo Raikou from the Neo 3 set has a pokemon power that is similiar to these other two cards. In fact the second half of Holo Raikou's Pokemon Power reads almost exactly like the second half of Light Arcanine's Pokemon Power. Could you ask the rules team to talk about whether Holo Raikou's pokemon Power should be played as "I may use it" instead of "I must use it?" A. This one is not exactly the same because you activate it by attaching an energy card. There is no 'may' added to holo Raikou. Those other cards made you use the power once per turn (incorrectly); this one is activated when you attach the energy. (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q43) == MIND GAMES (Slowking - Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. Please elaborate on the interaction if I have Slowking's "Mind Games" on my bench, but I flip tails when attempting to play a trainer under Chaos Gym. A. So, if I have Slowking out and there is a Chaos Gym, I attempt to play a trainer and flip tails. NOW my opponent can attempt to play that trainer (as long as it isn't a Tool or Stadium of course). I can now choose to use my Mind Games to make my opponent flip a coin for the trainer they are attempting to play. On heads, the trainer fails and goes back onto the OWNER's deck (this is an errata change to the text on Mind Games). (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q67) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. I have Slowking with "Mind Games", opponent has Chaos Gym; it's my turn and I want to play a trainer. I flip for Chaos Gym and it comes up tails; if the opponent wants to use the trainer, do I get to flip for "Mind Games" or not? A. No, because Mind Games only affects Trainers being played (meaning taken from his hand and used). Chaos Gym, in this case, is letting him USE your trainer card, not PLAY it. (Jan 4, 2001 WotC Chat, Q6 & Q169) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == STAMP (Tyranitar - Expedition Expansion) Q. Expedition Tyranitar with 1 Metal, 1 Dark, and 2 other energies....If I flip heads for it's attack, do I still do the bench damage? A. It doesn't do any bench damage. [ED NOTE: This is because the Metal gets checked first (before applying Weakness & Resistance) reducing the bench damage to zero, and then when the Darkness gets checked (after applying Weakness & Resistance) no bench damage has been done to allow the extra +10 damage.] (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q4) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNOWN CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == CHAOS GYM (Gym: Challenge Expansion) [see also Pokemon Power: "Mind Games"] Q. My opponent has a Slowking and there's a Chaos Gym in play. He plays for example Professor Elm and he flips tails. I decide to use it and he uses Slowking's pokemon power and flips heads what happens? A. Ok, if this is the scenario, your opponent playing Elm and losing it to Chaos Gym and you then using it would NOT allow him to do the Slowking flip. Slowking only allows the flip when you PLAY a trainer, NOT use one. There is a difference. (Jun 14, 2001 WotC Chat, Q81) == IMPOSTER OAK'S REVENGE (Team Rocket Expansion) Q. If my opponent has no hand and I play Imposter Oak's Revenge, do they still shuffle their deck? A. Yes they would. (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q16 & Q31) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. If my opponent has no hand and I play Imposter Oak's Revenge, do they still shuffle their deck? A. If it says to shuffle cards into the deck, then NO SHUFFLING if no cards are shuffled in. If it states, Shuffle afterwards (like after using a Comp Search) then DO SHUFFLE!!! (Nov 30, 2000 WotC Chat, Q19) == PROFESSOR ELM (Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. Does Prof-Elming with 0 cards in your hand allow you to shuffle before drawing 7 cards? A. Yes. [ED.NOTE: In fact, it *REQUIRES* it to be shuffled before drawing 7 cards, even with a hand of zero]. (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q31) == TIME CAPSULE (Neo: Genesis Expansion) Q. If Time Capsule is played and I choose "No Cards", may I shuffle my deck anyway? A. You only shuffle if you choose ANY cards, zero is not part of any. You don't get to shuffle if you take 0. (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q17 & Q29) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. If I had no cards in my deck, can I still use Time Capsule, etc. to put zero cards into my deck and shuffle it anyway? A. Sure. (Aug 31, 2000 WotC Chat, Q112; Apr 25, 2002 WotC Chat, Q15) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == SPECIAL CONDITIONS / STATUS EFFECTS / EFFECTS OF ATTACKS Q. Confused pokemon before they attack a baby pokemon... do they flip for confusion or the baby rule first? A. Baby rule. (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TEAM GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == TEAM PLAY IN GENERAL ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE NO LONGER APPLIES DUE TO RULES ABOUT TARGETING POKEMON POWERS ***** Q. If both of the opposing team's players have Slowkings on their bench, do I have to flip for all of them when I play a trainer or does one of the opposing teammates decide which one of them gets to call for "Mind Games"? A. Yes. Of course. All of them! (Mar 21, 2002 WotC Chat, Q77 & Q94) Q. In TMP, if I target one opponent with two of my slowkings, and that opponent is removed from the game (no more bench), do my Slowking retarget? A. Nope. [ED.NOTE: The same holds true for most targeted Pokemon Powers.] (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q28) == FEINT ATTACK (Murkrow - Neo: Genesis Expansion, Umbreon - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. In Team Play, can you use Feint Attack on one opponent then do the damage to the other? (i.e. Feint the one without the baby active, make the effect happen to the baby?) A. Yes. (Nov 14, 2002 WotC Chat, Q18) == PSYMIMIC (Alakazam - Expedition Expansion) Q. In TMP, does the Expedition Alakazam's Pokemon Power have to be targeted? A. Yes.
