Just like the Darkness Energy, play all Metal Energy as it was written in Neo Genesis. This card will be reissued with corrected text in Aquapolis. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 14) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON POWERS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == CONDUCTIVITY (Dark Ampharos - Neo: Destiny Expansion) Q. If I attach two energy cards to my Active Pokémon using Harvest Bounty, and my opponent has a Dark Ampharos in play, does that Pokémon take 20 damage? If so, what about using the Blaine trainer or Blastoise's Raindance? A. Yes to all. (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q465) == DARK AURA (Tyranitar - Expedition Expansion) Q. Light Dragonite's "Miraculous Wind" vs. Expedition Tyranitar's "Dark Aura" : If my T-Tar has a Darkness Energy card on it, Miraculous Wind would definitely disable the bonus +10 effect, but would Dark Aura allow it to continue providing Dark energy type? A. Tyranitar's Energy cards (even if Special Energies) would still produce Darkness energy. The Tyranitar's personal effect supercedes the Light Dragonite's overall effect. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 10) == ENERGY EVOLUTION (Eevee - Neo: Discovery Expansion) Q. If I attach 1 Rainbow Energy to Eevee (Lv. 14) can I use Eevee's Energy Evolution Pokémon Power to search my deck for any Evolution of Eevee? A. Yes you can. Rainbow Energy counts as any color of Energy while it is in play. This allows you to search for any evolution of Eevee. In this case (attaching a Rainbow energy) you can search for an evolution of any energy type. You do NOT need to announce it [the energy type] in advance. (Neo Discovery FAQ, WotC Website; Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 5) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. What if I attach a Rainbow energy to Neo Discovery Eevee and flip heads on Energy Evolution? Can I treat that energy as any energy and then search my deck for an Eeveelution of any type? A. You may search for only one evolution for Eevee of your choice. Before you search for an evolution for Eevee you decide what energy type Pokemon you will be searching for. (Jun 7, 2001 WotC Chat, Q36 & Q104 & Q126; Jan 31, 2002 WotC Chat, Q88) Q. An Energy Evolution Eevee with only 10 HP remaining has a Rainbow Energy attached to it. Would the player attaching the Rainbow Energy get to flip for Energy Evolution or would the Rainbow Energy damage KO the Eevee first? A. This question is being sent to Japan for an answer. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 6) Q. If I attach both a Lightning energy and a Water energy to my Eevee using Expedition Venusaur's power, do I get to search for either a water or lightning Eeveelution, and must I declare which before searching? A. You are actually attaching these cards in an order, just doing them both at the same point in your turn. So, depends on which one you attach first, that would be the energy type you could flip for first. If the first coin flip ends up heads, then you would be attaching the second energy to the now evolved Eeveelution and would not trigger the power again. If you flipped tails, then you could flip for the second energy you attached and search for its type (if heads [on the second flip]). (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q420 & Q433 & Q435) == HARVEST BOUNTY (Venusaur - Expedition Expansion) Q. If I use Expedition Venusaur's Power to attach both a Rainbow Energy and a Metal Energy to my Active Pokémon, will it take 10 damage (as I think it will)? A. When the Power says 'at the same time' it doesn't mean that you place the cards on at exactly the same time, you do place them on one at a time, you just can't split this throughout your turn. If you place the Metal on first, you can then place on the Rainbow energy without taking damage from it. (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q408) Q. If I attach both both a Lightning energy and a Water energy to my Eevee using Expedition Venusaur's power, do I get to seach for either a water or lightning Eeveelution, and must I declare which before searching? (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q420 & Q433 & Q435) Q. For Expedition Venusaur's "Harvest Bounty" Pokemon Power, if I have more than one in play, is it's power cumulative? For example, if I have 2 Venusaurs on the bench, could I then attach 3 energy per turn to my Active? A. This is a replacement effect and it is not cumulative. No matter how many Venusaur's are in play, you can only attach 2 Energy cards to your Active Pokemon instead of 1. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 8) Q. Also for Expedition Venusaur's "Harvest Bounty" Pokemon Power, if I use a "Blaine" trainer, would Harvest Bounty allow me to attach *TWO* additional energies (one for each energy attached by the "Blaine" card), or only one extra energy? (Does Blaine+Harvest=4, or Blaine+Harvest=3 ?) How many energy cards do I get to attach: 2, 3, or 4? A. 2, both Blaine and the Venusaur's Power effectivley do the same replcement effect. They are NOT cumulative. [Ed.Note: So in other words, you would only get to attach two energies TOTAL during that turn, period.] (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 9; Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q418) == MAJOR TSUMANI (Feraligatr - Expedition Expansion) Q. For Expedition Feraligatr's "Major Tsunami" Pokemon Power, is it mandatory that you and your opponent *HAVE TO* do the switch or is it optional? The text does not say "you may...". Same goes for Light Arcanine. A. Both of these effects are mandatory. If either of these Pokemon is Active and unaffected by a Special Condition, you MUST use their Pokemon Power. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 13) == NEUTRAL SHIELD (Mew - Promo) [CHRISBO NOTE: Replace current ruling with updated info from the Rules Team Meeting.] Q. If Promo Mew [Lv. 8 with "Neutral Shield" power, aka "Lily Pad Mew"] is the Active Pokemon, can Dark Gengar's "Pull In" attack be used? A. Dark Gengar's Pull In effect CANNOT be used if promo Mew is the Active Pokemon, or if the LVL 33 Suicune is the Active Pokemon (and their Pokemon Powers are functioning), or if the Defending Pokemon has an Agility effect on it. Switching a Pokemon up from the Bench with the Active Pokemon is considered "affecting" the Active Pokemon, and in these cases, this is prevented. (Sep 5, 2002 WotC Chat, Q247; Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 1) == TAILWIND (Dragonite - Expedition Expansion) Q. If you have Expedition Dragonite with "Tailwind", but The Rocket's Training Gym is also in play, you would still have to pay one energy to retreat, right? A. Correct. The Dragonite's effect basically changes the Retreat cost on the Pokemon card to zero. This could still be changed by other effects. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 12) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == PULL IN (Dark Gengar - Neo: Destiny Expansion) [CHRISBO NOTE: Replace current ruling with updated info from the Rules Team Meeting.] Q. [Ed. Note: With Suicune in the example above, the damage portion of the "Pull In" attack is NOT prevented, due to the wording of the "Crystal Body" Pokemon Power.] (Sep 5, 2002 WotC Chat, Q247; Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 1) == GENETIC MEMORY (Kingdra - Neo: Revelation Expansion) [CHRISBO NOTE: Update existing ruling with new information.] Q. What happens if you slap Kingdra on a Brock's Ninetales and try to use Genetic Memory? A. Nothing. If you attach Kingdra on a Brock's Ninetales it is only treated as that Pokemon. Genetic Memory ONLY lets you use attacks from Kingdra's basic or evolution cards and there aren't any of these in this example. (Oct 18, 2001 WotC Chat, Q17; Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q471) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNOWN CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == TRAINERS IN GENERAL Q. As far as supporters go, when you play one it tells you to lay it next to your active, first, does it stay attached to that active you put it on, or does it come back when they're benched, 2nd, Can you play down a supporter, and use the effect for later in your turn, like laying one down, elming and then using it, or does the card go into effect immediately? A. The Supporter is not actually attached to your active Pokemon. It's just used as a marker to show that you have already played a Supporter that turn. You use the Supporter when you play it. You merely lay it down next to the Active Pokemon so you don't forget that you played one that turn. (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q415 & Q473) == BLAINE'S QUIZ #1, #2, and #3 (Gym: Heroes & Gym: Challenge Expansions) [CHRISBO NOTE: Update existing ruling with new information] Q. If there's no length on the Pokemon [i.e. non-holos in Card-E], then how am I supposed to play Blaine's Quiz #1? A. All of the biological info for the Pokemon cards [in Card-E] now resides on your Game Boy Advance. The dot strip along the bottom of the card unlocks a picture, data, and tips about the card in your GBA if you decide to get the reader when it is available. You cannot play a Pokemon card that does not have the actual length written on the card. So, you could NOT flip over an Expedition card and use Blaine's Quiz #1. (Sep 12, 2002 WotC Chat, Q280 & Q295 & Q302 & Q307; Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 7) == RECALL (Gym: Heroes Expansion) Q. Can the Recall trainer now also allow Brock's Ninetales to use any of its previously-attached evo cards' attacks? A. Using Recall OR the Aerodactyl's Pokemon Power [Ed. Note: the Neo Revelation version], you can use the attacks on any attached evolution cards. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 3) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS SINCE BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. If Brock's Ninetales has several other evolution cards attached, can Recall be played to use any attack from any of those evolutions (assuming you meet the attack's other requirements)? A. No it cannot. Brock's Ninetales will never count or be able to count as any previously attached evolution cards (for its shapeshift power) that are still in play. (Nov 16, 2000 WotC Chat, Q6) == SABRINA'S PSYCHIC CONTROL (Gym: Challenge Expansion) Q. Seeing as supporters stay in play when you play them, if my opponent plays Sabrina's Psychic Control, He/She couldn't choose a supporter? A. You can't use Sabrina's Psychic Control to pull a Supporter out of your opponent's discard pile because the Supporter would have to be put in play. (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q430 & Q453) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == DARKNESS (Neo: Genesis Expansion, others) & METAL ENERGY (Neo: Genesis Expansion, others) [See Also: Errata] * The text on Darkness energy in the Expedition set is in error, please continue to play the card as written in the Neo Genesis text. Wizards of the Coast will reissue the Darkness energy with corrected text (same as the Neo Genesis version) in the upcoming Aquapolis release. Just play Darkness Energy exactly how we've always played it. (Sep 12, 2002 WotC Chat Announcements) * This [Metal Energy] card was incorrectly translated in this [Expedition] set. Just like the Darkness Energy, play all Metal Energy as it was written in Neo Genesis. This card will be reissued with corrected text in Aquapolis. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 14) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == CARDS IN GENERAL Q. Does the two versions of Dark Persian count as the same card? [Ed.Note: The version from the Team Rocket & Legendary Collection expansions have the same level and statistics as the Nintendo Power Promo #17 version, but one of the attacks has a different name ("Fascinate" vs. "Tempt") and the artwork is different.] A. These are conisdered the same card. (Sep 16, 2002 WotC Rules Team Update, Item 2) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TEAM GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == TEAM PLAY IN GENERAL Q. In TMP, if I play a Supporter on my opponent...since it's played on him I cannot use any more supporters my turn...but he can use them on his turn correct? A. Correct. [Ed. Note: Just for clarification, the supporter action itself must be played during the current turn; it cannot be held over until the opponent's turn. The answer here indicates that the other player may play a Supporter on their turn if they wish.] (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q427) == WARP POINT (Gym: Challenge Expansion, Expedition Expansion) Q. When you play a Warp Point in Team Multiplay, how does it work? A. Play the card as written. The player who uses the card gets to decide which opponent it affects and which member of his or her team it affects. Each of those players gets to choose which Pokemon they switch up from their own bench.
