Can I use Omanyte's "Water of Evolution" attack on the first turn of the game if I can somehow get it into play (like with Fossil Egg or Underground Lake)? A. Let's say you have already attached an Ancient Technical Machine Ice/Rock/Steel to a Pokémon. What happens if the Pokémon they are attached to evolves into a Pokémon-ex or de-evolves into a Basic Pokémon? A. The Ancient Technical Machine is removed. The restriction for attaching the TMs still remain a condition for the TM to stay attached. (Jul 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == MYSTERY ZONE (Skyridge) Q. If you use the Mystery Zone stadium and you don't have any basic energy cards remaining in your deck, do you still get to put an evolution card from your hand back into the deck anyway? A. Sorry, but no. If you can't resolve the first part, you don't get to do the second part. (Jul 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == RARE CANDY (EX:Sandstorm) Q. Can I use Rare Candy on the first turn of a game (when Pokémon are not normally allowed to evolve)? A. Yes, this is now permissible. (Jul 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. Can I use Rare Candy on the first turn of a game (when Pokémon are not normally allowed to evolve)? A. No. There is nothing in the card that allows it to break this rule. Nothing evolves on the first turn of the game! [NOTE: The Giovanni trainer card is a rare exception that specifically permits an evolution on the first turn.] (Sep 11, 2003 PUI Rules Team Meeting) Q. Can I use Rare Candy on a Pokémon's first turn in play? For example, can I place down a Wurmple and then use Rare Candy on the same turn to evolve it into Dustox or Beautifly? A. Yes, Rare Candy allows you to evolve a Pokémon the first turn it is in play. Can I use Rare Candy to place a Stage 2 onto a Basic Pokémon? A. You can use Rare Candy to evolve a Basic Pokémon into a Stage 1 or Stage 2. This essentially counts as your "Evolution" for that Pokémon that turn, although it's not restricted by the first turn the Pokémon is in play. The Stage 1 reference is because the card works on the turn the Basic is played. Can I use Blastoise's "Rain Dance", Swampert's "Water Call", etc. to attach an Aqua Energy from my hand? A. Magma Energy and Aqua Energy do not provide Fire or Water (or even Darkness) Energy while in a player's hand. Thus cards such as Swampert's Water Call will have no effect on Aqua Energy.
