Can Machamp with the "Immunity" Poke-BODY be brought up from the bench (or sent to the bench) with attacks like Dark Gengar's "Pull In" or Metagross-EX's "Metal Reversal"? A. Machamp cannot be moved by Gust-like effects from attacks, even if the "main target" is another Pokemon. Switching a Pokemon up from the Bench with the Active Pokemon is considered "affecting" both the benched Pokemon and the Active Pokemon, and in this case it is prevented. (Aug 5, 2004 PUI Rules Team) Q. What would happen if Blaziken-EX attacked Machamp (with the "Immunity" Poke-Body) with its "Blaze Kick" attack? A. On heads, it would do 50 damage. On tails, it would only do 30 damage. Machamp is only affected by damage and cannot get Burned while its Immunity Poke-Body is in effect. (Aug 5, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == PRIMAL AURA (Kabutops - Skyridge) Q. Can I use Rare Candy on my Pokémon to go to their evolutions if either Kabutops or Omastar from Skyridge is in play (with the powers/bodies that stop evolution)? A. You could not use a Pokémon's attack or play a Trainer card to evolve your Active Pokémon, unless the Evolution card you would be putting into play comes from somewhere other than your hand. [So Rare Candy cannot be used, but Wally's Training can.] (Aug 5, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS BEEN OVERRULED; See Above ***** Q. Can I use Rare Candy on my Pokémon to go to their evolutions if either Kabutops or Omastar from Skyridge is in play (with the powers/bodies that stop evolution)? A. You can use Rare Candy when an evolution-preventing Body or Power is in play (except for the first turn of the game). (Mar 25, 2004 PUI Rules Team) == PRIMAL STARE (Omastar - Skyridge) Q. When using Furret's "Scavenger Hunt", what happens if after I put two cards into my deck and then search for energy but can't find any? Would the two cards stay? And even if you know there is no more energy in there, can you use another Scavenger Hunt just to put two cards back in your deck? A. You have already put the two cards back in your deck. If you cannot find Energy cards, the effect ends there. (Aug 5, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POKEMON ATTACKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == SNIFF OUT (Linoone - EX:Sandstorm) Q. Can I use Linoone's "Sniff Out" to return a supporter to my hand that I played the same turn? The supporter would still be sitting next to my active, not in the discard pile. A. It is not in the discard pile yet - Linoone could not recover it. (Aug 5, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TRAINER CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == SUPPORTERS [CHRISBO NOTE: Either put this new "generic" section up at the top, or include this in the "TRAINERS IN GENERAL" section.] * On the first turn of the game, the starting player may not play any Supporter cards from their hand. This rule was introduced in Japan earlier this year, and will provide greater balance to how the game is played. (Jul 30, 2004 PUI Rules Update) == ANCIENT TECHNICAL MACHINE [ICE] / [ROCK] / [STEEL] (EX:Hidden Legends) [CHRISBO NOTE: Put this at the top of the section...] * The Ancient Technical Machines from EX Hidden Legends are removed, if the Pokémon they are attached to evolves into a Pokémon-ex or de-evolves into a Basic Pokémon. The restriction for attaching the TMs still remain a condition for the TM to stay attached. (Jul 30, 2004 PUI Rules Update) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ENERGY CARDS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == AQUA ENERGY / MAGMA ENERGY (EX:Team Magma/Team Aqua) [CHRISBO NOTE: Put this at the very top of the section...] Magma Energy and Aqua Energy do not provide Fighting or Water (or even Darkness) Energy while in a player’s hand. This is a clarification of “Doesn’t count as a basic Energy card while not in play…” Thus cards such as Swampert’s Water Call will have no effect on Aqua Energy. (Jul 30, 2004 PUI Rules Update) [CHRISBO NOTE: Change existing typo from "FIRE" to "Fighting". OOPS!!!] Q. Can I use Blastoise's "Rain Dance", Swampert's "Water Call", etc. to attach an Aqua Energy from my hand? A. Magma Energy and Aqua Energy do not provide Fighting or Water (or even Darkness) Energy while in a player's hand. Thus cards such as Swampert's Water Call will have no effect on Aqua Energy. (Jul 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL GAMEPLAY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- == EVOLVING [CHRISBO NOTE: Please update reference to PUI Rules Update and remove old ruling...] * Evolution effects may take place on the first turn of the game, unless specifically stated on the card. This will affect Trainer cards, Poke-Powers, and effects of attacks. In the past, it was ruled that such an effect would have to state “This may be used on the first turn of the game.” The correct usage is the card would have to specifically state “This may not be used on the first turn of the game.” (Jul 22, 2004 PUI Rules Team; Jul 30, 2004 PUI Rules Update) ***** PREVIOUS RULING: THIS ONE HAS BEEN FURTHER CLARIFIED; See Above ***** * Evolution effects from Trainers, Pokemon Powers (Powers & Bodies), Attacks, and Special Energy Cards may take place on the first turn of the game.
